News from our Inspirational Teacher Awards 2008
This year’s awards – sponsored by TES Cymru, Wales’ leading publication covering the world of primary, secondary and further education, was attended by over 350 teachers and head teachers from all over South Wales, along with representatives from the business community and local education authorities. Also attending the event was a host of sporting celebrities including Olympic and World Championship relay silver medalist Jamie Baulch, and Welsh rugby international and Cardiff Blues player, Jamie Robinson, who - like many of Wales’ top sportsmen and women, credit their teachers for providing invaluable support and encouragement in turning their sporting dreams into reality.
Gary Williams, managing director of New Directions Education, said, “We are delighted that so many Welsh sports stars have given their invaluable support to our Inspirational Teacher Awards from the start. Their sporting achievements have inspired young people all over Wales, and in the same way as inspirational teachers do, they provide extremely important role models to youngsters across our country.”
The evening, which was hosted by Red Dragon FM DJ Jason Harold also raised over £5,000 towards Help a South Wales Child.
